Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash, which resulted in a fatality.  The crash occurred Monday, (June 26), at 6:20 a.m. on Old Franklin Turnpike, east of Novelty Road in Franklin County. A 1998 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling east on Old Franklin Turnpike when the vehicle crossed the center-line and struck a 2021 Hyundai Sonata which was traveling west on Old Franklin Turnpike.

Ashley N. Hodges, 38, of Union Hall, Va. drove the Chevrolet. Mrs. Hodges was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and was flown by helicopter to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Hyundai was identified as Kyle J. Simino, 22, of Wirtz, Va. Mr. Simino was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and died at the scene.  Charges are currently pending.

 

(from Roanoke PD) On June 25 at approximately 11:20 p.m., Roanoke Police were notified by the City of Roanoke E-911 Center of a person with a gunshot wound in the 700 block of 18th Street NW. Responding officers located an unresponsive juvenile male victim inside a residence with what appeared to be critical gunshot wounds. Roanoke Fire-EMS pronounced the teenager deceased on scene.

Details about what led to this incident are limited at this time. Responding officers located property damage to the outside of the residence that is consistent with a shooting. No suspects were located on scene and no arrests have been made.

On June 21 at approximately 3:25 a.m., Roanoke Police were notified by the City of Roanoke E-911 Center of reports of shots fired near Plantation Road NE. Officers responded to search the area, and were flagged down by an individual at a business in the 3600 block of Planation Road NE. Officers located property damage consistent with a shooting, but no victims were located on scene.

A short time after officers’ arrival, they were notified that a person with a gunshot wound had arrived via personal vehicle to LewisGale Medical Center. Officers responded to speak with the adult male victim, who had what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Sometime after officers responded to LewisGale Medical Center, they were notified that another person with a gunshot wound had arrived at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Officers responded to speak with that victim, also an adult male who had what appeared to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Preliminary investigation indicates that both men were injured in the shooting that occurred at the business in the 3600 block of Plantation Road NE. Details are limited at this time due to the victims’ lack of cooperation. No further details are available and this is an ongoing investigation. Virginia State Police is investigating a vehicle verses two motorcycles crash, which resulted in a fatality.  The crash occurred Monday, (Jun 12) at 7:49 p.m. on Six Mile Post Road, just west of Pepper Road in Franklin County. A 2001 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling west on Six Mile Post Road, when the vehicle lost control, ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected crossing the center-line.  The SUV struck two motorcycles, a 2009 Yamaha and a 2001 Kawasaki which were traveling east.

The Chevrolet was driven by Ronald Wayne Patterson, Jr., 27, of Hurt, Va.  Patterson fled the scene on foot after the crash and was taken into custody a short time later. The Yamaha was driven by 31-year old James Benjamin Trail, of Ferrum, Va.  Mr. Trail was wearing his helmet and died at the scene.

(from Virginia State Police) There was a fatal crash in Franklin County yesterday.  The crash occurred at 7:49 p.m. on Six Mile Post Road, near Pepper Road. A 2001 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling east on Six Mile Post Road, when the vehicle ran off the roadway, overcorrected then struck a 2001 Kawasaki and a 2009 Yamaha which were traveling west. The driver of the Yamaha died at the scene.  The driver of the Chevrolet fled on foot and was taken into custody a short time later. No further details as of yet.

Virginia State Police is investigating a vehicle vs motorcycle crash, which resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred Sunday (Jun 11) at 10:22 p.m. on Route 11, at its intersection with Route 670 in Botetourt County. A 2008 Honda Accord was travelling north on Route 11, when the vehicle failed to yield the right-of-way while making a left turn onto Route 670 and was struck by a 2005 Yamaha Road Star motorcycle which was travelling south on Route 11.

The driver of the Yamaha was identified as David Charles Scott, 46, of Vinton, Va. Mr. Scott was wearing a helmet and died at the scene. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
