There are a number of initiatives spurred by work that Roanoke’s Gun Violence Prevention Commission has undertaken, in an effort to turn young people away from criminal activity. Now a proposed summer-time program focused on rising 8th grade students is seeking General Assembly funding. More from WFIR’s Gene Marrano:

Once again right before the Christmas holiday were were joined this morning by 6th District Republican Congressman Ben Cline. He was live by phone to talk about several bills and budget action items coming up soon. We also touched on the House Impeachment Inquiry vote and impeachment hearings that Cline says could commence in Spring 2024.

 

Virginia’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled over campaign is in full force for the holiday season. As WFIR’s Denise Allen Membreno reports that means more officers on the road looking for impaired drivers.

Thirty-six percent of Christmas Day traffic fataliities in the United States involve driving under the influence. On New Year’s that number jumps to 40-percent. As WFIR’s Denise Allen Membreno reports Virginia’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled over campaign is working to make holiday roads safer.
