The American Pickers series on the History Channel is coming to Bedford in April. Mike Wolfe and Frank Fitz look through private collections for valuable antiques – and hear the stories from those who own them. (from news release) Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and their team are excited to return to Virginia! They plan to film episodes of the hit series American Pickers throughout your area in April 2021.We understand that with the proliferation of COVID-19, we are all facing very uncertain times. We at American Pickers are taking the pandemic very seriously and will be following all guidelines and protocols for safe filming as outlined by the state and CDC. While we plan to be in Virginia this April, we will continue to re-schedule if conditions change for the worse.

The hit show follows Mike and Frank, two of the most skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques. They are always excited to find sizeable, unique collections and learn the interesting stories behind them. The pair hopes to give historically significant objects a new lease on life, while learning a thing or two about America’s past along the way. Mike and Frank have seen a lot of rusty gold over the years and are always looking to discover something they’ve never seen before. They are ready to find extraordinary items and hear fascinating tales about them. AMERICAN PICKERS is looking for leads and would love to explore your hidden treasure. No longer a short-season A-Ball affiliate of the New York Yankees, the Pulaski baseball team that plays at Calfee Park will now be known as the Pulaski River Turtles. The Appalachian League has now been transformed into a wooden bat summer league for college players. The season in Pulaski opens June 5th. Other teams in the 10-team circuit include the Bristol State Liners and the Burlington Sock Puppets.

Dr. Karl Emil Willers is a well-traveled museum curator and administrator. In November he came aboard as the new Chief Curator and Deputy Director of Exhibitions and Community Engagement at the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke. WFIR’s Gene Marrano sat down with Willers last month; here is his report, “In Depth.”

A collaboration of the Roanoke Public Libraries, the Roanoke Arts Commission, the Grandin Theatre, and the Feeding Southwest Virginia Community Solutions Center has led to the creation of the “We Are Art” rap cypher, which will be released later this week. They wanted to create something that displays and celebrates the diversity of cultures in Roanoke. WFIR’s Rachel Meell has more:
