(from Roanoke PD) On December 12, 2022 at approximately 3:10 p.m., Roanoke Police were notified by the City of Roanoke E-911 Center of a person with a gunshot wound in the 700 block of Hunt Avenue NW. Responding officers located an adult male victim inside a residence in the area with what appeared to be a critical gunshot wound. Roanoke Fire-EMS pronounced the man deceased on scene. His identity will be shared as soon as next-of-kin is properly notified.

No suspects were located on scene and no arrests have been made at this time. This is an ongoing homicide investigation. Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded last night around 7pm in the 5100 block of Yellow Mountain Road, in the Mount Pleasant area, for the report of a residential structure fire. Crews found fire and smoke from a mobile home. It was under control in 30 minutes. The mobile home was not occupied at the time. The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s Office estimates the damages at $50,000 and reports that the fire is still under investigation.

Salem Fire crews responded to a blaze last night at the old Givens Book Store at the corner of East Main Street and North Electric Road. When they arrived on scene, authorities found flames coming out of the building and the roof had fallen in. No one was believed to be in the building at the time of fire. There is no word on a possible cause.Just before 11 p.m., a bulldozer came and began demolishing the building.  It was scheduled for demolition as part of a renovation project on that corner.

Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash which resulted in a fatality.  The crash occurred Sunday at 11:01 p.m. on Interstate 81, southbound, 2.1 miles north of Sterrett Road in Rockbridge County. A 2009 Nissan Versa was traveling south on Interstate 81, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck the guardrail and came to rest blocking the southbound travel lanes.  The Nissan was then struck by a 2019 Freightliner tractor trailer which was also traveling south on Interstate 81.

The Nissan was driven by Ashley Mason Rhodes, 37, Virginia Beach.  Ms. Rhodes was injured and transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

ROCKBRIDGE CO., Va. – Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash which resulted in a fatality.  The crash occurred Saturday, (Dec 3) at 6:10 p.m. on Route 631, three tenths of a mile south of Route 733 in Rockbridge County.

A 2004 Ford Explorer was traveling north on Route 631, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a parked 1998 Ford Escort and then a tree, which caused the Explorer to overturn.

The driver of the Explorer, Nicholas Alexander Boardman, 29, of Buena Vista, Va., was injured and transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he later died. he crash remains under investigation.
