Roanoke-PoliceFrom Roanoke City Police: It is with deep sadness that the Roanoke Police Department announces the death of Najee Anthony Tynes, age 29, of Roanoke.  Tynes was found deceased at 6:29 p.m. last night in a restroom in the Police Department located at 348 Campbell Avenue S.W. Officer Tynes died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Officer Tynes had been employed by the Roanoke Police Department since August 30, 2011.  An internal review of the circumstances is currently being conducted.  Peer support personnel were called in to be on hand at the department last night and into Thursday.  Peer support personnel are available to assist officers, staff, and dispatchers at the E-911 center.  Employees also have options through the City of Roanoke’s Employee Assistance Program.  Badges will be shrouded through sundown on the day of burial.  Arrangements are pending.
