Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin delivered remarks at the renaming ceremony of the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke this morning. As WFIR’s Denise Allen Membreno reports the Center is one of three state veterans care centers operated by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services recieving new names.

Three Virginia Veteran care centers have been renamed including one in Roanoke. Govenor Glenn Youngkin was in the area this morning for a ceremony to mark the renaming. WFIR’s Denise Allen Membreno has more.

The Feel Good Tour is looking for good homes for their instruments. As WFIR’s Denise Allen Membreno reports the nonprofit wants to make sure any child can get music for Christmas.

The 9th annual Music for Chistmas gives free instruments to children who cannot afford them. As WFIR’s Denise Allen Membreno tells us The Feel Good Tour warehouse is open for holiday shopping.

Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash, which resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred Monday (Nov 27) at 4:28 p.m. on Route 11, one quarter of a mile north of Brughs Mill Road in Botetourt County.

A 2004 Jeep Liberty was traveling north on Route 11, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a support pillar of a dwelling, the vehicle continued into the woods and struck a tree.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as Kimberly Ann Painter, 63, of Buchanan, Va. Ms. Painter was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Sheetz is celebrating Thanksgiving week by reducing the price of its Unleaded 88 gas to $1.99 at all locations that carry this fuel in several states including Virginia. The company says Unleaded 88 has been approved by the EPA for use in all 2001 and newer cars, trucks, and SUVs. Sheetz says Unleaded 88 burns cleaner and reduces toxins, making it more environmentally friendly.

The Virginia Land Conservation Foundation has awarded the Grassy Hill Natural Area Preserve in Franklin County a grant to protect the Piedmont Fameflower. WFIR’s Denise Allen Membreno reports.
