RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ Some Virginia gun owners are rushing to get permits from Utah amid fears that their concealed-handgun permits could soon be invalid in other states. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Utah’s permits are among the most popular in the country because they’re recognized in over 30 states. Last month, Virginia’s Attorney General Mark Herring said concealed handgun permits held by residents of 25 states will no longer be valid in Virginia. Herring said the state will revoke its reciprocity agreement with the states because their concealed weapon laws don’t meet Virginia’s standards. The change goes into effect Feb. 1. Utah is one of five states Herrings said that has tough enough laws to maintain its reciprocity agreement with Virginia. Utah’s permits are available for a fee to non-residents who meet certain requirements.
