RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ More than 1,900 mortgage borrowers in Virginia will receive payments from SunTrust under a national settlement. Attorney General Mark R. Herring says checks of approximately $1,330 are being sent to 1,980 Virginians who lost their homes to foreclosure between Jan. 1, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2013. The check distribution began on Tuesday. SunTrust agreed to the $550 million settlement in 2014 to resolve alleged violations in its foreclosure practices and servicing of mortgages. Virginians will receive a total of more than $2.6 million under the settlement. Herring said Wednesday in a news release that scammers might try to take advantage of the settlement. He says any correspondence or interactions received by borrowers should be examined to ensure that it’s legitimate.
