Governor Glenn Youngkin today formally rolled out Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance, or VENA, which will use roughly 37 and half million dollars from the Commonwealth’s general surplus every week to provide food assistance to low income families that will be impacted by a loss of SNAP benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown. Youngkin says if the shutdown continues past this Saturday, VENA will go into effect on Monday.
Youngkin says VENA will disperse benefits weekly to the same SNAP EBT cards recipients have been using. The Governor says VENA will continue for as long as it can.
