Congressman Bob Goodlatte is still fighting Obama administration plans to spend about $60 million in stimulus funds to renovate the Poff Building. But the agency responsible for federal facilities says the work is badly needed, and as News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones reports, the case for renovations found a receptive audience at Roanoke City Council.

Congressman Goodlatte says the project is too costly, poorly conceived and conducted improperly without considering alternatives, but the General Services Administration’s Regional Administrator presents a much different case. David Ehrenworth came before Roanoke City Council yesterday and said the decades-old building already needed big renovations even before stimulus dollars were set aside for such projects.
Ehrenworth says the project will have a significant economic impact on Roanoke, and City Council members agree. The project remains on schedule to begin later this year and run through 2014
