A federal offical told City Council yesterday the building’s condition is “almost embarrassing”, placing it among those most in need of renovations. But Goodlatte says the greater issue for those working daily in the Poff Building is space, including the federal courts. Goodlatte says the Poff Building could use an upgrade, but not more than $60 million worth. He says an entirely new courthouse could be built for less — and address space issues that renovations at any price cannot. Goodlatte says the plans do not address security concerns he’s previously raised, and the project remains ill-conceived and impropery pursued.
