Botetourt County school officials are moving ahead with a plans to redraw some school boundary lines. The school board looked at the plan Thursday night.
Supervisor of Administration Brian Austin says one goal is to get away from basing school boundaries on roads.
“Roads are not good dividing lines,” Austin said. “On one side of the road you attend one school, on the other side of the road you attend another school, so we have buses passing each other.”
The new plan would also establish a “feeder system” to keep more middle school students together as they move into one of the county’s two high schools. Austin says they hope to have new boundaries in place by next school year, and will soon schedule meetings to hear from the public.
