Roanoke County Police officers were dispatched to the 10200 block of Bent Mountain Road yesterday in reference to a traffic crash involving a single vehicle. Authorities say the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a sign and a tree. The driver of the vehicle 28-year-old Justin Hopson, of Hillsville, was transported to the hospital. The front passenger 28-year-old Amber Yates, of Hillsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of crash. Police say alcohol and drugs may have been a factor. This crash is still under investigation.
