According to the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts, there is no health threat to the public based on a case of hepatitis A diagnosed in Roanoke last week Luigi’s Gourmet Italian Restaurant on Brambleton Avenue. District director Dr. Cynthia Morrow confirmed that during a briefing this morning. Morrow also said most of the Hepatitis cases seen in the region come from those with substance abuse issues that are using needles to inject drugs.

Roanoker Restaurant statement: Our hearts are heavy as we make this difficult announcement. After 81 years of serving the valley, The Roanoker will close at the end of May or the first of June.

We tried to sell the business to someone who would keep the Roanoker food and customer service the way the Warren family and we have strived to maintain.

To our very faithful and loyal customers, we will miss you and hate to disappoint you and take away “your” place to eat and socialize. This decision was not based on my Retirement alone, but other factors brought us to this point. We can no longer struggle with all the issues of running a business.

We are thankful to all our loyal customers and staff who have made The Roanoker successful for 81 years. All of you have been a blessing to us.

A Roanoke agency that serves low-income mothers-to-be and parents of young children says it has been able to meet most of its clients’ needs for baby formula. The Child Health Investment Partnership, or CHIP, says disadvantaged families face greater challenges than more others to find formula during the nationwide shortage. WFIR’s Evan Jones has more:

RICHMOND, VA – Today, Governor Glenn Youngkin released the following statement on reports of draft Supreme Court opinion:

“I am in utter disbelief that the sacred confidentiality of the Supreme Court would be violated in this manner. Sadly, this leak was done in order to cause chaos and to put pressure on justices and elected officials. It’s premature to speculate on what the Supreme Court’s decision will be; however, we learned from listening to Virginians over the last year that we have much common ground on this issue. I am pro-life, and I have been very clear about that since the day I launched my campaign. While we wait for the final June decision, we will be focused on lowering taxes for Virginians, funding education and law enforcement because we need to get a budget passed,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin.
