RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ Gov. Terry McAuliffe has granted a medical clemency for an inmate who has terminal cancer.

Media outlets report that 35-year-old Jason Scott Davis’ parents sought the clemency so that he can die at home.

His mother, Brenda Kirby, says Davis will stay with his brother in Henrico County.

His father, Charles Davis, says he’s heartbroken that he’s losing his son. But Charles Davis says his son will be surrounded by family when he dies.

Jason Davis is serving a two-year, one-month sentence at Powhatan Correctional Center for assault and battery on a family member. He was scheduled to be released Nov. 10.

McAuliffe spokeswoman Rachel Thomas says the governor granted clemency for the inmate but she wasn’t able to provide details about when he would be released.
