UPDATE: Roanoke City Detectives arrested Jermaine Leonard Brown, age 24, of Roanoke earlier this evening. He’s charged with murder and malicious wounding. Brown was taken to Roanoke City Jail
UPDATE 09/05/16: A Roanoke City Police spokesman has identified the homicide victim to be Jermaine Lynn Black, age 26, of Roanoke. Officials say ten others were also injured. Eight of those were transported to the hospital by private vehicles.
From Roanoke City Police: Roanoke Police were in the area monitoring exterior activities concerning an Unknown 911 call in the vicinity of Monster’s Bar and Grill. Officers on the scene heard several shots being fired from inside the establishment. Individuals were observed fleeing from inside this location and leaving in various private vehicles. On the scene the investigation revealed that numerous patrons had been struck by gunfire inside. Roanoke Fire and EMS responded and transported several of these individuals for treatment. Once officers entered Monster’s Bar and Grill they located inside one subject who had been shot, this subject was pronounced deceased by EMS personnel.
One victim fleeing the scene by private vehicle was stopped at Peters Creek Road and North Lakes by Roanoke Police. Roanoke County EMS responded and resumed the transport to a local hospital. Additional wounded individuals began arriving at local hospitals by private vehicles for treatment into the early morning hours.
The identity of the one deceased individual is being withheld until notification to family members can be made. The investigation into this incident is continuing.
