From Roanoke Police: Officers responded to a shots fired call and observed approximately ten individuals in the parking lot where the caller said the shots were heard. While investigating, officers heard several more shots fired on the property. One of the officers observed a male, later identified as Rodney Ray Dunn, age 32, of Roanoke running from the scene. Officers observed Dunn holding a handgun and issued clear commands for him to stop but he refused. One of the officers tackled Dunn. The handgun he was holding was recovered. Dunn was arrested and charged with public intoxication. He was taken to Roanoke City Jail. The gun was seized and will be forensically tested to cartridge casings recovered at the scene.
As all this was happening, officers observed a vehicle trying to exit the parking lot where the shots were fired. The driver refused commands to stop the vehicle. Another officer was able to stop the vehicle on 29th Street. The driver, later identified as Christopher Lashay King, age 32, of Roanoke, would not show his hands and kept reaching into his waistband. Officers were able to grab hold of King’s right arm and undo his seat belt. Once outside the vehicle, King attempted to reach into his waistband once more. Officers observed King was carrying a concealed handgun in his waist and safely removed it. King was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, possession a concealed firearm, DUI, refusal, and trespassing. He was also taken to Roanoke City Jail. The handgun King was carrying was also seized to see if it could be matched to any casings found at the scene.
