Virginians are expected to save more than $4 million in sales taxes this weekend. More on the annual tax holiday from News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones.
The sales tax holiday applies to clothing and footwear costing less than $100 per item and to school supplies $20 or less per item — no 5% state sales taxon those items through Sunday. Many stores choose to extend similar savings to many other items, but in those cases, they are responsible for paying the sales tax themselves. State Taxation Department officials say the sales tax holiday includes on-line purchases for eligible items. The holiday runs through Sunday.
