Roanoke Police say 53-year-old Michael Byers is charged with holding up the First Federal Credit Union office on Williamson Road this morning. Byers allegedly walked in just after 9:00 am and handed a note to a teller demanding money. Police arrested Byers less than an hour later in the Valley View mall area.

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a bank robbery that occurred on November 27, 2012. Officers responded at 9:04 a.m. to Freedom First Credit Union located in the 5100 block of Williamson Road. Through the course of the investigation officers determined that the suspect entered the bank and produced a note given to a teller. The suspect then obtained an undisclosed amount of money and fled.
Officers were also able to quickly determine that the suspect traveled to the 4800 block of Valley View Boulevard after the robbery. Numerous officers responded to that location, and set up a perimeter and several observation points monitoring the area. Officers located an individual who matched the suspect description, but had changed some articles of clothing. Through the course of the investigation officers identified the individual as the suspect and located clothing discarded after the robbery. He was identified as Michael Byers, age 53. Mr. Byers was arrested and has been charged with robbery. No weapon was displayed during the robbery and no one was hurt.
