Roanoke County Fire & Rescue announced today the promotion of Christopher Travis Griffith as Deputy Chief. Griffith will begin to transition into his new job responsibilities for the department’s administrative division. Griffith’s promotion comes three months after then Deputy Chief Stephen G. Simon was appointed as Chief of Fire and Rescue on July 28, 2015.
Griffith began his service with Roanoke County in 2002 as a Firefighter/EMT. He was promoted through the ranks from fire lieutenant in 2005, to fire captain in 2008 and his most recent promotion to battalion chief in 2012. He served as an operations battalion chief for three years before becoming the battalion chief over the training division in July where he was responsible for overseeing the training program for 160 career personnel and nearly 200 volunteers. Griffith holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Virginia. He is also a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s prestigious Executive Fire Officer Program. Griffith lives in Roanoke County with his wife Ellen and daughters Carly and Claire.
