During yesterday afternoon’s Roanoke County Board of Supervisors meeting, members voted unanimously to authorize the acceptance of the Explore Park property from the Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority. The authority had owned the nearly 1,100 acres of park land for almost 40 years. This is believed to be the largest land acquisition in Roanoke County’s history. Assistant County Administrator Doug Blount told the Board that the goal now is to create a greater hub for outdoor recreation. The deal was made possible thanks to 2 dollars and an agreement with Bedford County. More than 300 acres of Explore Park is in Bedford County.
