From Roanoke City Police: On July 29, 2014 at 6:08 p.m. Roanoke Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Orange Avenue NE to investigate a shots fired call. Immediately upon arrival officers detained several subjects believed to have been involved in the incident. The preliminary investigation suggests the individuals involved were traveling in two different vehicles on Hollins Road when at least one of the occupants in one of the vehicles starting shooting at the other vehicle. The vehicles separated briefly and then the individuals encountered each other again at the intersection of 11th Street and Orange Avenue where additional shots were fired. At that point, several of the individuals then got out of their vehicles, and crossed Orange Avenue on foot, where one of the subjects was assaulted in the parking lot of the Huff N Puff Smoke Shop in the 1200 block of Orange.

At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident and some of the parties in both vehicles were familiar with each other. Investigators have no evidence at this time indicating any danger to the public as a result of this particular incident. Officers recovered both vehicles involved as well as two firearms. One subject was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries as a result of the assault. At this point, investigators have no evidence that anyone was hit by gunfire.
Detectives made the following arrests: Todd Eldridge Thomas Jr., age 22, of Roanoke County. He is charged with malicious wounding. Ivory Shane Banks, age 22, of Roanoke. He is charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Detectives and officers are actively seeking the following suspect: 1) Kevon Deryan Taylor, age 24, of Boones Mill. There is a warrant for his arrest for shooting into an occupied vehicle.
