A Roanoke man faces multiple charges after a police chase and accident Saturday night in Roanoke County. Police say the driver tried to avoid a sobriety checkpoint at Hershberger Road and Oakland Boulevard shortly after 11:00 p.m.
Police say the Chevy Blazer nearly struck an officer standing in the road as it turned down Oakland Boulevard. The SUV then struck a car driven by Timora Reynolds , who was attempting to turn left onto Maplelawn Avenue. The wreck spun Reynolds’ Pontiac Solstice around and it was struck by a pursuing police car. Police say the driver of the Blazer continued on a short distance before abandoning the vehicle and running away. A K-9 Unit caught the suspect within 25 minutes. Police charged 47-year-old Ralph Garland Alfred Jr. with felony elude, felony hit and run, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. Police say Timora Reynolds, who is from Martinsville, was taken to the hospital for examination. Police say no one else was injured.
