UPDATE: Roanoke Police report Darius Cunningham turned himself in Monday afternoon.

From Roanoke City Police: On September 13, 2015 at 9:23 p.m., Roanoke Police were dispatched to a shooting call in the 1400 block of Rorer Avenue SW. Upon arrival officers found the victim, identified as Derrick Jerome Cooper, age 39, of Dillwyn, VA. Cooper had a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was conscious and alert when officers arrived and was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injury. The suspect left the scene before officers arrived. After further investigation, detectives obtained warrants on Darius Scott Cunningham, age 21, of Roanoke for malicious wounding and using a firearm in commission of a felony. Cunningham has not been served the warrants and officers are attempting to locate him at this time.

At this point in the investigation it appears the victim and the suspect were familiar with each other and the incident may have been drug-related.
