Yahoo made news recently after hackers slipped malicious code into ads on the Yahoo home page and infected thousands of visitors. This is called a Watering Hole Attack. Now, unsuspecting people who use the FireFox browser are getting a fake message to update their browser.
The message itself is even accurate about the benefits of updating your browser, and there are no misspellings or grammatical errors. That’s uncommon for a fake website message. Plus, the site opened in its own in a browser tab; it isn’t a popup. That makes it seem more like a real message. And it asks for your permission. It doesn’t try to force you to download the update, it gives you the option.
Whatever you do, do not fall for this fake message to update your browser. This opens the door to spyware and viruses getting on your computer.
