Roanoke City Police begin training a new class of recruits today — 16 in all. Five of them are women, and the demand for female officers means they are often more likely to leave for another department than men. Roanoke Police Chief Chris Perkins says it means police departments across Virginia must work hard to attract and hold on to them. WLNI/WFIR’s Evan Jones has the story.
