The sudden departure of Ted Cruz from the presidential race leaves many Cruz delegates with a decision on what to do — including most of Virginia’s Republican delegates. Roanoke County school officials say a bomb threat disrupted classes today at Burlington Elementary School, but a police search turned up nothing suspicious. The latest message: Burlington Elementary has been cleared by the Roanoke County Police Department. Students have returned to the building. Dismissal will take place as scheduled with an increased police presence. We thank the Roanoke Co. Police Dept. for their prompt response. We continue to investigate this incident.
A new statewide survey of Virginia middle and high school students shows significant decreases in those practicing risky behaviors — especially smoking. The survey results show smoking among Virginia high school students is down to just about 8%, and student use of harder drugs like heroin cocaine and meth is down significantly. WFIR’s Evan Jones has the story.
