State employees would pay more into their retirement system under a plan Governor McDonnell is presenting to the General Assembly — 1% more, phased in over two years. Right now, 5% of state workers’ pay goes to the Virginia Retirement System, and the governor wants it raised to 6%. It part of a larger plan to shore up the fund and its ability to meet future obligations. McDonnell has already proposed a $2.2 billion state contribution. WFIR’s Evan Jones has the latest.
