Governor McDonnell has raised the ire of many civil liberties groups by suggesting state and local law enforcement agencies might find useful purposes for unmanned drone aircraft. He says drones could protect both police and the public in cases involving terrorism or SWAT teams, but Virginia is not currently considering their purchase or use, and privacy issues must be part of any eventual decisions.
