DMVRICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is giving some customers more time to renew expiring driver’s licenses and other DMV-issued credentials. The DMV says a service failure of the state’s IT service provider closed its offices on Saturday. As systems recovered, many offices reopened later in the morning and extended their hours until 1 p.m. Because of the shutdown, the DMV says credentials set to expire between Jan. 31 and Feb. 6 will be valid through Feb. 7. The late fee for these renewals has been waived until the new deadline. Law enforcement has been notified of the extended validity periods. The DMV says enforcement will resume after Feb. 7.
