Norfolk Southern will close its Roanoke dispatching center, and that will mean the loss of 56 local jobs. The Roanoke Times reports it is one of eight regional dispatching offices to be similarly affected, and in all, 450 employees will have the option to relocate in Atlanta, where Norfolk Southern is consolidating its dispatching operations. The railroad tells the Times the goal is to “manage rail operations from a network perspective vs. from individual locations.”
