The Washington Nationals have reportedly fired both manager Dave Martinez and general manager Mike Rizzo.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the team made the move Sunday afternoon shortly after losing to the Boston Red Sox. That loss dropped Washington to 37-53 on the season.
The decision ends a long run for Rizzo, who became the Nationals’ GM in 2009 and built the franchise’s 2019 World Series-winning team. Martinez, who was hired as manager before the 2018 season, led the Nationals to their first championship in franchise history.
The Nationals currently sit last in the NL East.
