UPDATE 10:55 a.m., 8/8/14: This is now clear and the barricades have been removed.
You may need to find an alternate route for your morning commute, if you travel through the Shaffer’s Crossing area of northwest Roanoke. The Roanoke Police Department is investigating an early morning officer involved traffic crash. It happened around 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of 24th Street and Shenandoah Avenue.
The following intersections are closed due to officers investigating the crash:
- Shenandoah & 20th
- 24th & Salem Turnpike
- 30th & Shenandoah
- 24th & Johnson
The police department says there are also a few lesser traveled intersections in that area that are shut down. You should plan on alternate routes if you travel that way for work. It’s not known when the investigation will be complete and the streets reopened.
Police say the officer was driving an unmarked patrol car south on 24th when it collided with a tractor-trailer headed east on Shenandoah. The officer was the only person transported to the hospital. He sustained non-life threatening injuries
