If you’re interested in helping medical students learn to be doctors, you might want to consider volunteering at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke. Professor Sonya Ranson Echols says they’re looking for so-called “standardized patients”–volunteers who are trained to pose as patients so the students can examine them.
Echols, director of the Center for Experiential Learning at Carilion Clinic, says they’re especially looking for adults younger than 40, but she says all volunteers are welcome. You can find a link to an application at the Virginia Tech/Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute’s website.
