UPDATE 4:44 p.m. 12/12/2012: Virginia State Police say the driver of the log truck swerved on Route 460 West shortly before 3:00 Wednesday afternoon, overcorrected, lost control, the truck overturned in the median. The logs spilled onto both eastbound lanes. Police say Donald Ray Mann swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting other vehicles stopped for a school bus unloading children. Mann is from Campbell County and was not injured. He is charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a tractor-trailer crash that occurred this afternoon around 2:50 pm on Route 460 westbound at the intersection of Route 1429 in Botetourt County. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Peterbilt tractor-trailer hauling logs was traveling westbound when the driver swerved as he attempted to avoid striking other vehicles that were stopped in the westbound lanes for a stopped school bus unloading children. The driver overcorrected losing control and then overturned in the median which caused him to lose his load of logs which blocked both eastbound lanes. Donald Ray Mann, of Campbell County was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and he was not injured. Mann was charged with fail to maintain control of his vehicle as a result of the crash.

A truck carrying logs has overturned on US 460 near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Botetourt County, and the truck is lying across part of the highway. Sheriff’s deputies report the eastbound lanes are blocked, but traffic is able to get around in both directions. Delays in the area are possible until the scene can be cleared.
