A federal grant will help about 70 Roanoke area high school dropouts get their diplomas, earn a wage, and develop job skills. Details from News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones.

It’s called YouthBuild, administered locally by TAP — Total Action Against Poverty. They’ll select young men and women, 16 to 24, to build two Habitat for Humanity Houses over the next 30 months in the Hurt Park neighborhood while earning GED’s. Goodwill Industries will help place the students in jobs. TAP is one of the 31 programs in the country to receive one of these Department of Labor grants. Enrollment begins this month.
