Seized: 2,800 ‘hits’ of heroin with street value of $84,000.00. This is the largest seizure of heroin in Bedford County …ever, and a disturbing trend in the illegal drug arena as we, BCSO, has concentrated on this particular illegal drug, as others, but our concern reference this drug has been a little more focused because of the it’s high risk for addiction. To see this amount of heroin come into our county is a concern to this office and a concern that we will certainly keep an in our ‘crosshairs!’
Heroin addiction is one of the most destructive and painful addictions in the world and rehab can be a lifelong process. Produced from the poppy, heroin is a semi-synthetic form of morphine. It has been estimated to be one of the most addictive substances created. In 2011, 4.2 million Americans aged 12 or older (or 1.6 percent) had used heroin at least once in their lives. It is estimated that about 23 percent of individuals who use heroin become dependent on it.
Our Vice and Drug Unit worked with the above noted agencies for several months perfecting this case, as well as police and intelligence units in New Jersey.
