RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ A gun-control organization backed by billionaire Michael Bloomberg is set to spend more money trying to help Democrats win control of the Virginia Senate. Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced Friday it would spend $1.5 million ahead of November’s election helping Democrat Jeremy McPike defeat Republican Hal Parrish in a competitive northern Virginia Senate district. The Bloomberg group will run ads featuring Andy Parker, whose daughter Alison was shot to death during a live TV broadcast at Smith Mountain Lake in August. A spokeswoman for the group said the $1.5 million will go for TV and digital ads. Northern Virginia is in one of the most expensive media markets in the country. Everytown has already announced plans to spend $700,000 helping the Democratic candidate win in a Richmond-area seat.
