Mill Mountain Zoo red panda cubs Beatrix Kiddo and Archibald will be leaving the zoo as early as June 8th for Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo. The move was recommended by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan. Beatrix and Archie were born at Mill Mountain Zoo on June 15, 2014. Their parents, Nova and Degan Reid, will remain at Mill Mountain Zoo. Another cub named Samson will also be moving this summer to the Indianapolis Zoo as part of another Species Survival Plan. The World Wildlife Fund considers red pandas a “vulnerable” species their native habitats in the forests of China, Nepal and India are being destroyed.
