NEW YORK – A Delta regional jet preparing to depart for Roanoke, Virginia, collided with another aircraft on a taxiway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport Wednesday night, according to the airline.
The “low-speed collision” involved two CRJ-900 regional jets operated by Endeavor Air. The wing of Flight 5155, which was bound for Roanoke with 28 passengers, struck the cockpit window of a flight that had just arrived from Charlotte, North Carolina.¹
A flight attendant on the Roanoke-bound plane reported a knee injury and was taken to a hospital, according to air traffic control audio and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport.¹ No other injuries were reported among the passengers or crew of either aircraft.
“Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as safety of our customers and people comes before all else,” the airline said in a statement. “We apologize to our customers for the experience.”¹
The 28 passengers scheduled to fly to Roanoke, along with 57 passengers from the other aircraft, were taken to the terminal by bus. Delta said it offered them hotel rooms and meals.¹
The Port Authority stated the incident did not impact overall airport operations. The Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted for comment on the collision.
