SALEM, Va. (AP) _ Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is set to make a campaign stop in the Roanoke Valley. He is scheduled to speak at Carter Machinery Company in Salem on Tuesday afternoon. The former Massachusetts governor made campaign stops in Chantilly and Portsmouth in early May. He also delivered the commencement address at Liberty University in Lynchburg. Virginia is considered a critical battleground state in the fall election. The Roanoke-Lynchburg area is seen as one of the most important regions in the state. Obama won Virginia in 2008, the first time a Democrat won the state’s electoral votes since 1964. President Obama officially kicked off his re-election effort in Richmond last month.
