EARLY MORNING DOMESTIC TURNS INTO ABDUCTION

Botetourt County Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle reports that at approximately 8:43 Sunday morning Botetourt County dispatch received a call from a man who said he had been tied up in a garage in the area of 17th Street in Buchanan VA. Upon deputies’ arrival they met with the victim who stated that while visiting a friend’s house that an unknown male subject entered the residence, believed to be shortly after midnight, as he and the homeowner slept. The unknown suspect entered the bedroom and after an exchange of words the suspect discharged a shot from a firearm. The victim was then ordered out of the house into a garage close to the home where the suspect and the homeowner bound the victim with a rope and a belt and left him in the floor. The victim stated a short time after he was bound, he heard a vehicle start, believing it was his, and leave the scene. After a period of time the victim was able to free himself and left on foot to call 911 for assistance. At that time he noticed his vehicle was missing.

Upon deputies arrival they obtained a statement from the victim and noticed the victim to be very shaken, possibly having a medical emergency aggravated by the incident. The victim was then transported to a local hospital by emergency services.

When the deputies returned to the scene they encountered the female homeowner. The deputies relayed the victim’s statement to the homeowner. She divulged enough information to corroborate that an incident of this type had occurred. During the initial investigation the homeowner became less cooperative and refused access to the home.

Upon further investigation it was determined that an ex-boyfriend of the homeowner, 40 year old Robert C. Huffman, formerly of Buchanan, VA, was the suspect who broke into the home.   Warrants were obtained for breaking and entering, abduction with a weapon and unauthorized use. Huffman is still at large. The homeowner, 41 year old Suzanne Cole Landes, was charged with abduction with a weapon and unauthorized use of a vehicle.   She has been arrested and is currently being held without bond in the Botetourt/Craig Counties Regional Jail.
