VDOT is getting ready to beef up its 511 traffic information system. On Wednesday, VDOT awarded a five year contract to Iteris Inc. to design, develop and operate a new enhanced phone and web-based 511 system. The contract calls for improved voice recognition software to enable better communications, easy-to-use menu functions, and new apps for the iPhone and Droid.
