Roanoke School Superintendent Rita Bishop is proposing a performance bonus for the city’s top-ranked teachers. It’s part of a larger one-time bonus plan using $3 million in federal jobs funds, and Bishop proposes a $1,500 bonus for almost all Roanoke city teachers. In addition, she recommends another $500 dollars each for the top one-third of teachers in each building.

Bishop believes the system they have developed is a fair and objective measure of teacher performance, but as News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones reports, some school board members have lots of questions.
