The official announcement comes next month, but Roanoke residents can now recycle many more plastic items than before. Almost any plastic container found around the house may now be placed in the recycling bin. The details from WFIR’s Evan Jones.

Until now, Roanoke’s recycling program for plastics was limited to items with either the number one or two stamped on it. Now it’s one through seven,  and Roanoke Solid Waste Manager Skip Decker says that pretty much covers anything you’ll find around your kitchen. Decker says recycling saves city residents money because it costs less to send paper, plastics and cans to recycling centers than it does to landfills.  The official announcement is expected next month, but Decker says Roanoke residents can start recycling all those other plastics now.
