ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A local nonprofit is preparing to host its fifth annual fine-dining event for people experiencing homelessness, complete with linens, real dinnerware, and servers in bow ties.
The Least of These ministry will hold its “Dining with Dignity” night on Friday, October 11, in Elmwood Park. Dinner service is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
Dawn Sandoval, the founder and executive director of The Least of These, said the goal is to provide a high-quality meal in a respectful setting that honors the guests.
“It’s a chance to get to talk to them, learn their stories, and just treat them like humans,” Sandoval said.
The event aims to serve individuals a meal made specifically for them, rather than leftovers. Organizers are creating a full fine-dining experience to ensure guests feel valued.
“We provide everything from the linens to the silverware, things like that,” Sandoval said. “In the past we have served right at 150 unsheltered individuals.”
The ministry is currently seeking event sponsors and donations of entrées from local restaurants. Community members who wish to contribute supplies directly can do so through an online wish list created by the organization.
