The Roanoke Police Department Fatality Investigation Team is investigating a single vehicle crash that killed the driver Sunday around 1:45 a.m. in the 2000 block of Orange Avenue NW. Police say the vehicle was traveling west on Orange Avenue when the driver lost control near the fork at Orange Avenue and Salem Turnpike. The vehicle left the road, struck a tree and overturned. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. At this point in the investigation, it appears speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
