A Roanoke Valley moving company is spending October collecting pet supplies to benefit a local animal welfare organization. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK-Roanoke/Salem is hosting its third annual “Movers for Mutts” donation drive through October 31, with all collected items supporting Angels of Assisi.
Donation drive supports more than just an adoption center
The campaign is collecting dog and cat toys, canned and dry pet food, litter, cleaning supplies, collars, leashes, and blankets for Angels of Assisi, which recently moved to a new facility on Franklin Road in Roanoke.
Chris Beckley, sales manager at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK-Roanoke/Salem, explained why they chose to partner with Angels of Assisi rather than a traditional animal shelter.
“Angels of Assisi is actually more than just a shelter slash adoption agency,” Beckley said. “They have a community pet clinic and very affordable pet care for those that don’t want to take their pet to a veterinarian. They also serve as a farm sanctuary. And the third program that they do, which I think is really, really good, they have a safety net program…which offers temporary housing for pets of people that are experiencing domestic violence and other emergency situations.”
Building on previous success with ambitious goals
The local franchise is looking to exceed last year’s collection totals as part of a nationwide effort that made a significant impact in 2024.
“Back in 2024, the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK network collected over 53,000 items and over 4,800 pounds of animal food for pet shelters throughout the country,” Beckley noted. “Here at the Salem location, we collected about 200 items last year and we hope to reach 300 items this year.”
Where to donate across the Roanoke Valley
Donations can be dropped off at the company’s main location at 1123 East Main Street in Salem, as well as at several partner locations throughout the Roanoke Valley:
- Bob’s Restaurant, 1004 Walnut Avenue in Vinton
- Woodland Hills Retirement Community, 3365 Ogden Rd, Roanoke
- Hermitage Senior Living, 1009 Old Country Club Rd, Roanoke
- Putt Putt Fun Center, 6801 Peters Creek Rd, Roanoke
- Petco at Towers Mall, 630 Brandon Ave, Roanoke
Beckley encouraged residents to visit Angels of Assisi’s new facility, describing it as “a three-story building with state-of-the-art equipment, X-ray equipment. They’ve got veterinary facilities down there. Their third floor rooftop is actually an outdoor play area for the animals that they have, which I think is incredible.”
About Angels of Assisi

The organization offers a Community Pet Clinic with affordable veterinary care, a Farm Sanctuary for rescued farm animals, Rural Veterinary Care services, Cruelty Investigations, Disaster Response, and the Safety Net Program for those needing temporary housing for their pets during emergencies.
According to Beckley, monetary donations are also welcome to support Angels of Assisi’s comprehensive programs and services.
