All the recent heavy rains and flooding have created a lot of extra work for Appalachian Power crews on Smith Mountain Lake. An Apco spokesperson says the company typically clears 400 tons of debris a year from the lake, but so far this year, they have already cleared more than triple that amount — more than 1,400 tons.
