ROANOKE, Va. – Dairy Queen restaurants in the region will participate in the annual Miracle Treat Day on Thursday, July 31, with proceeds from Blizzard sales benefiting Carilion Children’s hospital.
The event is a nationwide fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. For more than 20 years, the initiative has directed funds raised by local restaurants back into their communities. All proceeds from participating locations in the area will support patient care and services at Carilion Children’s.
How Donations Support Local Patients
Funds from Miracle Treat Day are used to cover costs for specialized medical equipment and patient services that are often not paid for by insurance.
Macy Ware, director for the Children’s Miracle Network at Carilion, said the fundraiser provides critical support for the hospital’s pediatric programs.
“Every year, Miracle Treat Day raises critical funds,” Ware said.
How to Participate
A portion of the proceeds from every Blizzard Treat sold at participating Dairy Queen locations on Thursday will be donated. Customers do not need a coupon, and residents are encouraged to confirm participation with their local restaurant.
Radiothon Offers Another Way to Give
A separate fundraising event is scheduled for the following week. Carilion Children’s will partner with WFIR’s sister station, Star Country, for its annual Radiothon on Aug. 8 and 9. This is the first year the radio fundraiser has been extended to include a Saturday, providing an additional opportunity for community donations.
